Commentary
This is a ten mile ride through Palm Beach on the Lake Trail, a designated bike trail shared by strollers, joggers, and rollerbladers. This is paradise.
Directions to Start Ride
Exit I-95 at Okeechobee and drive east into downtown West Palm Beach. Cross the bridge into Palm Beach. After crossing the water, immediately turn right on South Lake Drive. Or continue to the first traffic signal at Cocoanut Row, turn left and drive north a mile to Royal Poinciana Way. Metered parking on South Lake Drive by the marina. There is some free on-street parking around here. There is more free parking to the north at the Flagler Museum, in the Royal Poinciana Plaza mall, and one block north of there on Sunset Avenue. Parking is very restricted in Palm Beach and the elaborate No Parking rules are stringently enforced.
Mile by Mile
The Lake Trail begins at the Society of the Four Arts Museum on Royal Palm Way by the Intracoastal Waterway. Ride north to the end of the Lake Trail at the Sailfish Yacht Club, about three miles.
Continue north on Lake Way to Indian Road , turn right one block to North Ocean Boulevard, then left to the end of the island at Annie's Dock.
From the dock, you see the Port of Palm Beach, Peanut Island, the Blue Heron bridge, and Singer Island across the Palm Beach Inlet.
Return south on North Ocean Boulevard. There is public access to the beach from North Ocean Way between Indian Road and Mediterranean Road.
Two miles south near El Pueblo Way is another public beach access. The sign marking it is hidden in the landscaping and easy to miss.
Just beyond this point the street jogs away from the ocean. Another bike path begins at the Beach and Tennis Club at Country Club Road. Look for the croquet court on Fairview Road.
This bike path ends under a shady canopy of ficus trees at Wells Road.
Turn east to the ocean and the public beach.
Continue south along the beach to Sunrise Avenue. Follow Sunrise Avenue west back to Bradley Place and the supermarket. Return south along the Lake Trail.
